Why is FDM sometimes more expensive and sometimes cheaper than SLS?

With FDM technology support structures are built to support overhanging geometry. This costs time, materials and finishing time and therefore means higher product price. Models that do not or hardly need support structures and are of a reasonable size will quickly be cheaper than SLS components.
